Abstract

For centuries, humans have been committed to preserving knowledge. In the past, archiving aimed to preserve the physicality of scarce materials. With the rise of the Internet and personal computing, archiving has become the organizing of overwhelming amounts of information and building tools to navigate this abundance. Most modern search methods return a linear list. Given a list, what’s at the top is the most important. There are currently two types of tools used for exploration: search tools and synthesis tools. Synthesis tools have been on the rise: With the emergence of large language models and tools like ChatGPT, people can ask questions and receive generated responses. My project is to build an exploration tool that combines the strengths of both search and synthesis.
