Research Project Title:

More Comfortable Obstructive Sleep Apnea Treatment using Additive Manufacturing

abstract:Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a condition which affects 1 in 15 people in the United States and a multitude of individuals across the globe. Patients with OSA experience a temporary relaxation of the throat muscles, obstructing vital airways and temporarily preventing the individual from breathing. Current treatments and techniques used to treat or alleviate the effects of OSA are often uncomfortable and intolerable. Project OSA involves the development of a device which is effective in preventing airway blockages, while offering patient comfort. In this project I will be refining the current Project OSA prototype through bench top testing and clinical studies. The techniques that will be utilized include intraoral scanning, thermoforming workflows, and rapid prototyping.

SuperUROP is a great way for me to get a sense of the disciplines in mechanical engineering which I want to delve further into in the future.
