In redox reactions, the clear distinction between NADH-rich cells and FAD-rich cells allows for SLAM microscopy to be utilized. Consequently, this SuperUROP project seeks to provide a reliable qualitative assessment of the redox state, effectively characterizing label-free contrast. To do so, the relative concentration of NADH and FAD can be determined via the simultaneous collection of three-photon autofluorescence (3PAF) and 2PAF.
I am participating in SuperUROP because I’m really excited about the potential impact that super-res microscopy may have on disease diagnosis. This past spring, I took 6.03, where I learned the scientific principles behind various medical devices. I hope to apply my knowledge from 6.03 and other classes to make the most of my SuperUROP opportunity.
