Abstract

Non-invasive Screening for Diabetes
Finding new methods to screen for diabetes has been a growing focus in medical device research over the years. Although many new techniques have been developed most are arduous and invasive. The goal of my project is to focus on building a device that will be able to optically inspect the skin and screen for diabetes without requiring invasive procedures. This device will attach to a mobile phone which will analyze the skin and send the data to an application. The application will then process the data and provide a diagnosis from the measurement. The intention of this device is to create a health diagnostic tool that will be accessible to a large number of people even to those in rural regions.

I am interested in the development of technology to better the quality of healthcare and technology around the world. Through my past UROPs I was able to work on various projects creating simple technologies that focused on different aspects of healthcare and international development. I am eager to work on this project because it incorporates both electrical engineering and computer science along with my interests.
