Abstract

Map Making and Inference from Mobile Sensor Data
The goal of the SuperUROP is creating a system under which autonomous vehicles can share their sensor data amongst each other while navigating their environment. As these vehicles become more widely integrated into society the operation environment will be one where many of them will be operating the same space. There is an opportunity for the vehicles to aid their navigation via shared information and enable them to operate more safely and efficiently. The system will be designed to allow efficient sharing of sensor data between vehicles in order to refine each vehicle’s model of it’s surroundings. This infrastructure will help make self-driving vehicles better navigators of their environments more easily integrated with each other and reality even sooner in our everyday lives.

Quote

I’m a rising senior and I play volleyball here at MIT. Last spring I took a class on sensor computing and I completed a term project related to communication between autonomous vehicles. This project is a natural followup to that work. Self-driving vehicles are something I’ve been interested in for a long time and I’m excited to get to work in the area in a more formal manner.
