Abstract

Reforming the South African Education system has been an ambitious goal since apartheid ended in the early 1990′ s. STEM outcomes are particularly lagging in comparison to other developed nations. In our research, we use a suite of tools like Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines, and K-Nearest Neighbor learning models to better understand characteristics of students and schools that impact math and science performance. With this insights, we will recommend specific changes on where to deploy future MIT Global Teaching Labs and Global Start Up Labs to maximize student impact.
