Single-photon-level imaging
Knowing temporal and spatial information about individual photon impacts is extremely useful in fields from astronomical observation to quantum information transfer. Currently superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs) are very effective in relaying this information though there is little progress in large-scale arrays of SNSPDs as well as a framework for gathering and interpreting output signals from such a setup. The focus of this project is to find and develop a consistent method to read and understand signals from an array of SNSPDs. Of focus will be the creation of a system to use the device optics for image projection and development of software to interpret the output from the SNSPD array.

I’m Ignacio a junior studying Electrical Engineering. My SuperUROP project revolves around creating a system to interface with nanoscale single photon detectors. My courses in electronics and physics have helped me in my experience with the Quantum Nanostructures and Nanofabrication Group which I’ll be conducting my research with.
