Abstract

Recent developments in wearables have made it possible for consumers to monitor their brain data through electroencephalography and functional near-infrared spectroscopy, but few tools exist to process that data into useful information. The goal of this project is to design algorithms to transform physiological data from wearables into metrics that measure brain health and evaluate cognitive function and impairment. To make these metrics accessible to both consumers and clinicians, this project will focus on two main areas: (1) Designing efficient signal processing and screening algorithms that can be implemented in real-time on a mobile device and (2) Creating brain data visualizations that enable biofeedback by making the aforementioned metrics understandable by non-clinicians.

I am participating in SuperUROP because I want to develop my research skills while creating technology that can positively impact personal health. I hope to apply my background in video game development towards research that is immediately accessible and tailored to the needs of individuals who would benefit from cognitive screening.
