Abstract

My SuperUROP project aims to develop durable biointerfaces that enable long-term biosensing in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract for continuous, non-invasive health monitoring. Although ingestible GI-resident biosensors have tremendous potential, their performance is limited by the harsh GI environment-low pH, digestive enzymes, mechanical stress, and biofouling-which can quickly degrade sensing interfaces. My research will focus on engineering and optimizing biomolecular coatings that improve sensor stability, reliability, and long-term performance. By establishing design principles for robust biointerfaces, this work will support the development of next-generation ingestible biosensors for continuous disease monitoring and advance more personalized approaches to healthcare.

I am participating in SuperUROP because I want to take on greater scientific independence while contributing to research with the potential to greatly improve human health. Through this project, I hope to deepen my expertise in biomaterials and biosensor engineering while learning how fundamental research can be translated into technologies that address real clinical challenges. I am excited to develop the technical, analytical, and collaborative skills needed to lead impactful research and prepare for a future career in biomedical innovation.
