Abstract

Modeling and Prediction of Bus Arrival Times

Being able to accurately predict arrival times and delays is a key to optimizing network traffic. In the context of public transit systems accurate prediction of bus arrival times reduces passenger wait times and improves efficiency. This project focuses on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority dataset which contains several years of bus transit data. The goal of this project is to used advanced statistical models as well as machine learning techniques to accurately predict bus arrival times.

Quote

I’m using Boston transit data to try and predict bus arrival times. I’m hoping to gain experience in data science specifically machine learning techniques on a real data set. After taking 6.036 I got interested in machine learning algorithms and I’m looking forward to putting them into practice.
