Abstract

Computational biology is a rising field at the intersection of biology and computer science that addresses the goal of modeling biological systems using computational tools and techniques. The recent whole-cell simulation of a Mycoplasma genitalium cell by Karr et al., marks the first successful computational model of an entire biological organism with an in silico model. This project will aim to augment the model with synthetic gene elements. Specifically, we will attempt to simulate the effect of synthetic gene networks on cellular dynamics, and to allow the engineering of synthetic circuits with specified target dynamics.
