Finding a scientific and meaningful way to determine the boundaries of voting districts has been a problem of interest in recent years. When examining the goodness of a partition into voting districts, we generally would like short boundaries that align with the boundaries of counties and states. In this project, we would like to investigate ways of sampling from the distribution of partitions into congressional districts and develop performance metrics for the resulting partitions.
I’m participating in SuperUROP because I’m interested in applying knowledge from inference and stochastic processes to a project grounded in the real world. I’m excited to further my knowledge and gain research experience.
