Co-design presents a compositional strategy for designing complex systems with heterogeneous components using the mathematical framework of category theory. The three main areas of research in this space focus on (1) efficient algorithms and new insight for special classes of design problems, such as those which are “linear” by some definition, (2) the intersection of co-design and game theory, where different actors can be considered as part of the system design, and (3) optimization under uncertainty. This project will address concerns in these areas by investigating design theories involving parametrized forms of uncertainty. Furthermore, we aim to identify certain classes of design problems that can be efficiently solved in the uncertain domain. We may also consider the development of more efficient sampling algorithms for the solution of design problems.
I’m excited to work closely with faculty on problems in highly theoretical domains with broad societal applications. The SuperUROP program gives me the freedom and support to tackle these problems over the course of an entire year.
