The success of 3D printing today hinges on that it removes entirely the burden of fabrication from users, automating fabrication of many geometries. However, few real world artifacts today are fabricated in a single process, without any further assembly or treatment. In this project, integrate mobile robots into the 3D printing pipeline. We demonstrate how this can be used to automate and integrate assembly tasks into the pipeline to create more complex 3D objects, for example by re-orienting prints during fabrication. In addition, we demonstrate a variety of new features that emerge from this pipeline, such as using the fabrication machine and robots in a feedback loop by iteratively fabricating updated robots to assist in fabrication tasks.


I have been doing research now for almost two years and through every project I do, I learn more about this world and myself. I gain new abilities, skills, and more importantly knowledge. However, despite all the progress I’ ve made there is still more to be done, more to discover, more to understand. SuperUROP affords me the privilege of climbing the mountain of research further, onto new heights, and new possibilities.
