NB is an annotation taking tool developed by the Haystack Group at CSAIL and used in several classes both in and out of MIT for students and faculty to collaboratively annotate PDFs and certain class sites. Currently, NB has several issues, such as being unable to easily resolve redundant comments, and missing features, such as pointing out general topics or sections where many students find difficulties. The goal of my project is working on solving one or more of these problems and see how well they work out in practice. Once these issues are resolved, NB can become an even more useful tool to help facilitate discussions not only at MIT, but also at other universities.
I am participating in SuperUROP because I want to get more hands-on experience with projects outside of classwork. I took 6.831 (User Interface Design and Implementation), and I really enjoyed building user interfaces for various applications. I hope to learn more about the back-end side of web development as well as experience research in the HTI field.
