Research Project Title:

Extending AI Capabilities with MIT App Inventor

abstract:MIT App Inventor is an open-source visual programming environment for building fully-functional apps for smartphones and tablets. Recently, the team has been developing apps and curriculum for students to experience artificial intelligence and machine learning with projects such as facial recognition and voice detection. Unfortunately, many existing AI apps on the Android platform are currently unsupported on iOS. The goal of the project is to build these AI components for App Inventor on iOS and understand how to improve the AI capabilities on App Inventor for both Android and iOS devices. We aim to close the gap between Android and iOS for accessing engaging AI models on App Inventor.

I am participating in SuperUROP because I want to contribute to a fun project that taps into software development, AI, and education. I'm interested in applying the skills I've learned in 6.031 (Software Construction) and 6.036 (Intro to Machine Learning) to the technical components of this project, as well as developing skills in teaching and education. I'm excited to be working on the project that introduced me to CS!
